At Cultivate Success, we genuinely want to make a meaningful impact in the food and farming sectors by connecting people and encouraging real conversations. For us, it's all about bringing everyone together and building a strong, united community.
We deeply care about developing and supporting people, and we do this through mentorship. We believe mentorship is a powerful way for both mentees and mentors to grow—personally and professionally—and we’re passionate about being part of that journey.
Cultivate Success, a unique initiative founded by Helen Wyman emerged from her Nuffield Farming Scholarship on the transformative power of mentoring. With a career deeply rooted in the food, farming, environment, and energy sectors, Helen intimately grasps the challenges faced by food and land ecosystems.
"Since returning from maternity leave six years ago, I was very fortunate to have two accidental mentors, now known as The David's (watch my Nuffield video for context), who were and are my critical friends and sounding boards for all aspects of my career. I credit them with helping me have the confidence to be where I am today.
When deciding on my Nuffield, I wondered if everyone had a David, and if not, was that because they didn't have access or didn't know they needed one? Very quickly, it became clear that the research shows time and time again the importance of having a mentor(s) to the individual and those around them. So, I focused my studies on how to implement effective programs and the recipe for success.
After returning home from my travels, I returned to my day job but felt conflicted as I was unable to implement the findings of my Nuffield Scholarship. So, with the support of my mentors and the food and farming network I had built over my career, I took a step into the unknown and set up Cultivate Success. I did not want to put financial pressure on the business, so I started consultancy work around SFI improvements, amongst other things.
I am clear that Cultivate Success is an agile business that rapidly evolves to fit the needs of the industry and those already part of our community. So, from our first pilot, kindly sponsored by the Frank Parkinson Agricultural Trust, in 2023, to our latest cohort, things continue to evolve, and the community is taking a life of its own.
My plans for the future are simple. I want to create a vibrant community of people where everyone is welcome (and, in fact, actively encouraged) to join. Where there is a love of lifelong learning, connections, and thinking about the future.
None of us know what it will hold, but I know it will be better together.
I would love you to join our new and exciting community."
Helen

Please reach us at mentoring@cultivate-success.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We look for people who have a willingness to help others and want to see other people succeed. You may have found you have done this informally in the past without realising it.
The simply answer is no.
We would love mentors of all different ages and experiences to join the program. If you of the right mindset and have experience, we would love you to help one of our mentees. Our mentees also vary in age and experience.
Yes, in a multitude of ways:
There are many different answer to this question with no one right or wrong.
For us a coach guides you towards your goals without knowledge of the industry.
A mentor also acts as a guide who is already walked your path but has knowledge of the industry (it may not be the same role however understands the wider ecosystem that you operate).
Yes it is, however, we would suggest that in each cohort, you are one or the other to ensure you don't overcommit yourself
Yes, we limit numbers on each course to ensure we deliver the highest quality service. We work on a first come first served basis (places are confirmed when payment received for mentee places).
A key part of the research we conducted into mentoring programs clearly showed that matching based on more parameters than sector or job role is vital for successful matches.
We use advanced matching technology to ensure you get the best match for you. The better the match the more you will get out of the relationship. We greatly respect the time of the mentor and mentee, therefore it is vital for us to make sure the match has the greatest chance of success.
We are currently working on this. Please email mentoring@cultivate-success.com to let us know which CPD points would be useful for you.
Please get in touch with us as soon as possible to discuss. Depending on your status there are a number of avenues to seek funding.
